i'm leaning that way too Rory , but the apcing i'm referring to is one speaker to another . 1st one i got 1/8" between drivers , 2nd one much less ...

I understand. I recommended the Duratex finish because the texture is visually pleasing but can confuse the eye at a distance and minimize the appearance of small flaws. I just worked with it recently and it's great stuff, as easy as paint to apply but dries tough.

The 1/16" difference in driver spacing definitely won't be audible or even measurable. Don't sweat that part of it. It's just a question of how to save the appearance of the speaker.

If you were planning on veneer, you can still veneer or paint the rest of the enclosure as desired, and Duratex should complement it nicely. Check out http://techtalk.parts-express.com/sh...LTL-heavy-pics for an example.

i think your right Joey . the wood is here but a full sheet of 1" is a bear to do by myself and i won't have the time till the weekend ... oh well , i'm still voicing anyway ...

I'd use it temporarily, and enjoy the fun of tweaking the x-over for a few weeks, or months.

Eventually I'd cut a circular recess 1/2" deep with my router, and glue in 1/2" inserts to shift the drivers.

I'd use it temporarily, and enjoy the fun of tweaking the x-over for a few weeks, or months.

Eventually I'd cut a circular recess 1/2" deep with my router, and glue in 1/2" inserts to shift the drivers.

i'm not that good of woodworker and would rather just re-do it ... not sure i could do temporary attachment .

and how maddening would it be if i heard a difference ???

just kind of sux cuase this build started by me finding the baffles in the scrap pile ... and i messed it up .

At least you didn't have the final basecoat on a cabinet that was getting a high gloss finish only to bump the corner while moving it through a door frame and have to go back to the bondo/spot putty phase. I, uh... have a friend... who did that :o

i had all the finishing problems i could handle during my boombox build ... true story ...

good news (somewhat) , my all day job re-scheduled and i got the stereo guys to help me cut down the full sheet of 1" i'm now measuring and re-measuring and hope to have the baffle attached today ...

Bwahhahaha, completely agree. This build makes me kind of wish the P series were around before I did my builds.....
