Super cheap, water resistant, small full range speakers?

Hey folks, I'm looking to build an outdoors speaker for a patio table. It'll be portable, but will likely be forgotten outside and suffer from at least a few days of rain here and there.

Speakers need to be water resistant, full-range down to at least 300hz and super CHEAP. Like $3-$5 each. I'll need four of them.
These will be used to listen to rock'n'roll at moderate volumes and will be paired with a midbass/woofer.

Any suggestions on speaker drivers?

The models I've tried will hold a cone full of water for days on end. I don't think you'll have any trouble.

Wouldn't pretty much any non-paper cone driver be water proof? Metal, poly, probably even kevlar. Well assuming the dust caps are also made of the same water impervious materials? Oh also I guess phase plugs are out of the question. The little ND104 comes to mind but pretty any non-phaseplug non-paper driver should work, right?

These NLA JVC units would work well for you if you could get them, try posting a WTB in the Classified section

The W3-1053SC in the Minion III (http://www.parts-express.com/tang-ba...river--264-880) won't make your bottom-dollar price threshold, but if you can swing a little higher has a poly cone and sounds great in small/nearfield use.

Hahah, yeah I almost forgot about the dust cone too. The Dayton ND series all look like they would work, even if they aren't advertised as being water resistant. They're all pretty expensive though. Though they do the work of more than one speaker at that price range.

Stay away from foam or paper surrounds as well. Only thing I found on PE that meets all your criteria is this. However I have no idea how these will perform

You may can find some marine coaxial speakers for cheap online like ebay or even craigslist.

Well if you can bump the budget a smidge the Vifa TC9s are pretty sweet and meet the requirements. I've been playing with a pair and they sound impressive

Edit: Thought they were poly cones but are in fact paper. They do feel coated though

Yeah, if I had the budget, then I'd go with the $19 Faital Pro 3". It's waterproof, great off-axis response and works well in tiny ported enclosures (per the specs). Doesn't say it on the PE page, but it does say over at US Speakers that it is indeed waterproof for outdoor concerts. Nice sensitivity too.

A bit outside your budget but a "real" speaker that's weatherproof - you may not need as many of these for the same space as smaller cheap full range ones.......and of course no need for extra woofers ;)
