  • Suggestions for feet?

Was curious what people had found works well for feet on hardwood floors? I have seen lots of spike kits with rubber spacers, not sure how I feel about the look of those. If I was on Carpet I would think they would look great, but on 60 year old oak floors surrounded by late 1800's to early 1900's furniture, feel like it might look a bit silly.

Have seen pro audio rubber feet- they seem a bit large most times. I am building Paul C's Core 2way towers. Just want something that keeps them from vibrating against the floor. Don't really want something that raises them up too much- as tipping is something I would like to make difficult. Cost is an object so please keep that in mind before suggesting billet outriggers lol

    Thanks for the help!

I have used several of these - can't see them when on the floor unless you get down there.
Shop pro case & speaker cabinet feet that will give your box the protection and looks it deserves. Available in rubber, plastic, metal, and adhesive, and in different shapes and styles.

Use a Jasper Jig or similar, and cut oak rounds to desired diameter, drill recesses for screws, stain to match the speaker or floor, attach.

I ordered a hand full of different sizes of Penn-Elcom rubber feet and like them as well. Some of them are as thin as 3/8", which like Steve said, aren't really visible unless you are specifically looking for them.

If you're looking for something to actually isolate them then check these sorbathane feet out.

You have to match them to the total weight for proper loading , but these are about right for my towers.

I have a project that I plan on countersinking the penn-elcom rubber feet so that they do the job but leave minimal gap from the floor and virtually hide themselves

+1. I have done that also and it works well.

I use the dense felt circles that you get at the hardware store. Small ones are good as bump pads for kitchen cabinets, larger ones (3/4" or so) work great on the bottoms of speaker cabinets. They are a bit more slippery than rubber, though.

Something like this would work, come in smaller packages, too.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. Based on weight - has anyone used these? http://www.amazon.com/Isolate-It-Sor...orbothane+pads

They aren't very thick, and say they are rated for 75-100 lbs. No idea what these will weigh when I am done. Was thinking as they are shorter and flatter - may not have as much of a chance of tilting etc. Countersink the Penn-Elecom is a good option too. My cab is 3/4 MDF - what would be the max you guys would recommend countersinking ?

                    Thanks

I am not a fan of sorbothane for speaker isolation. sometimes needed to keep your sub from dancing around the room, but otherwise I do not think it a good idea. read this first

In my small bookshelfs I have used felt pads, in the towers and in amps I use 3mm craft foam rectangles or circles.

                          I like these.
                          Door-and-Drawer-Bumper-Clear
Different sizes are available, as well as square.
The material is quite firm but has a good grab on smooth floors and shelves. It won't discolor or soften finishes.

You should see all the little brown circles on my desk from the pads on monitors. I can trace my monitor history back through to the dark ages, kind of like like tree rings.
Even the felt pads can do this, it's the adhesive.

Be aware that Sorbothane pads will stain your floor. Even the "no stain" hemispheres. (Speaking from experience on a recently-refinished floor laid between the World Wars.)

If you want to stick the speakers down, like Sorbothane will, try spots of Blu-Tack. It's like 8 bucks on Amazon. I don't think Blu-Tack will stain, though I don't know for sure. It doesn't stain my espresso-stained oak mains/flanking subs.

I use "magic sliders" under my subs (including mains flanking sub/stands) and Blu-Tack between flanking sub/stands and mains. I like sliders because they make it easy for our cleaning person to vacuum under the speakers. (We have cats that shed like crazy.) I have a piece of masking tape on the floor behind each speaker to make sure each one gets lined up properly after cleaning.
