  • Which 3 Inch Full-Range ?

I have an old 1994 Chevy Sierra pickup. I want to install some decent speakers up front... just stereo. There's a nice area above the gauges and directly centered at the driver position. It's about 18 inches wide and I can go about 3 inches tall at the front of the enclosure (nearest the driver position) without obscuring any vision at all. This area slants down at approximately 30 degree angle after the first 2 inches or so... so the enclosure can be larger toward the back (toward the front of the truck). The enclosure will be Velcro-ed to the dash.

I'm thinking thin 1/8 inch plywood with LOTS of wooden dowels to damp panel resonances. This will keep the enclosure small. I'll paint it to match the dash color.

I'll add a small subwoofer behind or under the seat... 8 or 10 inch.

I want to keep things simple while still having a full-range sound with good imaging.

I'm the only person ever in this vehicle except on rare occasions and then we talk rather than listen to music. So the only important listening position is the driver. I won't even need time alignment.

What 3-3.5 inch drivers do you recommend and why?

Why? The phase plug has a cool look to it, and it sports a shorting ring at least.
:blues: Flat frequency response, a smooth sound power response free of resonance, careful driver-integration, and high dynamic range both upward and downward :blues:

Did you happen to see this thread?

I think the PS95 is pretty nice looking with the copper color contrast. That TangBand is a beauty too.

I haven't heard either but might pick up some for Christmas present builds soon...

Two good options so far. I wish the Dayton had a published FR graph though.

Yeah - i was hoping for the same. I think Rory from Dayton said in the related thread that a PDF is in the works.

Nope- full copper cap. Plug glued atop the cap.
Yes- I have taken one apart...

Man does not live by measurements alone, a little music helps.

Budget? Audible Physics AR3-A and their matching AMT would be a great option. Excellent performance/price point.

I don't want to spend too much. The truck is a bit noisy and I've lost much of my high frequency hearing anyway. I figure $150 or less for the drivers is more than enough especially since these are near-field.

Well- it was a defective unit. It shipped without a plastic face-cover as most TB units come with, and the plug looked off center after I had them installed. I tried to see if it was loose, and when I gripped the plug the entire motor structure fell into the cabinet!!!! So- it came apart on its own accord, likely from initial assembly and shipping issues.

Oh yeah- and jkrutke (zaph) has measurements on his website of this unit anyway- no need to measure it myself.

300Hz HP is decently clean in terms of 3rd order, and will keep Xmax down.

What about THESE ? In a noisy vehicle I'm not too particular.

I am buying them for another project, but have held off until they fix the shipping related error.

Although (much) more expensive, these are really nice http://www.parts-express.com/fountek...river--296-721
