Re: Reccomendations? MTM Tl Speakers
How about a pair of skull crushing 4.5 cu Dayton 8's?
There is even a revised more modern crossover for them too.
All that and a bag of chips. And you wont even need a subwoofer with these puppies!
Might be worth a look...

Re: Reccomendations? MTM Tl Speakers
Thanks for the reply this is what i want but i need to make it 8 ohms because of , as you said, the amplification on hand:D. I was looking into Dr. K's MTM's http://www.parts-express.com/project...ject-dr-ks-mtm and i would like to build these but i need to know if they are 8 ohms and if not would i be able to convert them to 8 ohm speakers?

Several members have made this design in a tower configuration. I am seeing the finish line on my towers, it's been a long haul. This should be right in your budget and the crossover is very straight forward. This is a 4 ohm design though and I see you want an 8 ohm which may be due to your amplification on hand.
You can build them similar to these, JonMarsh's Natalie P design, wich use the same drivers.

Tritrix might be a good option.

That said, your woofer choice is a common one and for good reason. You may want to look at diysoundgroup.com as well. For the tweeter, I would look for one that can cross lower, around 2KHz. Something like the Dayton RS28A or SB acoustics sb26stac. They are more money, but still reasonable and your crossover won't need a bunch of extra parts either.

You should strongly consider Dennis Murphy's ER18MTMs in ML-TLs, all the documentation is right there.

Re: Reccomendations? MTM Tl Speakers
Browse through the Speaker Projects gallery for lots of options and finishing styles too...
For the RS180, have a look at the Amigas by Paul C. Really nice and works great for movies too

Re: Reccomendations? MTM Tl Speakers
Lost of established MTM and MLTL designs - Suggest you go with one of them. One MTM MLTL design recently listed to was the Blues MTM, available from meniscus audio as a kit - really sweet and goes plenty loud and fits in your budget. But really, lots of good design and kits available.

Reccomendations? MTM Tl Speakers
Hi everyone i am new to this forum and i have a ton of questions ;) i am looking to build my first set of the impossible, cheap audiophile speakers i am 16 and these will be the frst speakers i have built, i have about 300$ to spend on the drivers alone and then another 50$ to build a box out of mdf and 100$ to build a crossover. anyways, i am looking at using the dayton 7" reference woofer at 8 ohms (http://www.parts-express.com/dayton-...8-ohm--295-364) and the neodymium morel tweeter (http://www.parts-express.com/morel-m...eeter--277-060) in an MTM setup. I need these for my living room for high quality sound using vinyls and cds, only problem is because it is in the living room it will also be used for tv :P I would like to know if this would be the best tweeter in the 30$ range for classical music, classic rock, and movies. I would also like to know if this is the best woofer in the price range of 45-60$. and if not what would be? As for the interiors i need to know how to figure out the port diameter and length needed for this MTM setup, and i will need to now how to figure out the volume of air needed in the speaker box and whether a TL design would be needed? I also need to know what type of crossover to make for both the tweeter and the two woofers to run at 8 ohm total impedance? sorry to overwhelm you with questions but as i said, first set of speakers and I'm looking for a miracle.Any help would be greatly apprreciated and thanks for your time!
