  • Completely OT: We are running short on government agencies!

    Just for giggles:

Can you think of ONE aspect of human existence that doesn't have a federal agency connected with it?

Yes I can Religion. Look under the letter R and there isn't any one for religion. I wonder if that is something to do about separation of church and state says Phil as he looks at the dollar bill in his hands that clearly reads in 'God We Trust' on the backside of the bill. Fun intended.

There's one on this forum too. It's called a Moderator. And I think he should step in and close the F out of this thread.

Bureaucracies built by empire builders. Inefficiency is the best thing they can achieve.

We really need to push the restart button in this country.

Nothing in the constitution is in the slightest way anti-religion. Most of the founding fathers were quite devout. What the constitution prohibits is an official state supported religion, as what the founding fathers did not want was anything resembling the connection between the English Crown and the Church of England. The First Amendment doesn't restrict religion. It insures that all religions are treated equally.

As for the federal agencies, they were all created by our representatives, ostensibly for our benefit. Probably half could be eliminated with no ill effect, other than to those employed by them, but the problem with letting genies out of lamps has always been getting them back in again.

Not only that Bill, religion is entered into voluntarily. Last I checked, I'm not required under threat of imprisonment to give to a church or other religious institution. Try that with the IRS.

Yes it's been popular to bash the government ever since Reagan declared that "government IS the problem". Then proceeded to start the gutting of OUR government without thinking about the consequences to the people. Our infrastructure is collapsing and we don't even have enough manpower to inspect the bridges and highways of our federal highway system. All the agencies that used to make the USA the best in the world have been destroyed by budget cuts in the name of "austerity". The real reason is that big money interests lobby for privatization and the politicians pander to the big money and outsourced our government to private corporations. AT OUR EXPENSE! This continues to the present. NIH budget cuts may have delayed the development of Ehola vaccines. Hell we don't even have a Surgeon General because the right wing politics trump what's good for the people to pander to the NRA. Those same politics have destroyed this county. The corporate big money said "get government off our backs with all these taxes and regulations so we can grow and create jobs..." Right!... that worked out well didn't it? We are now becoming a 3rd world nation by every measure. Not caused by government but by the lack thereof. My opinion.

Not only do we have a right, but a responsibility to discuss and interpret matters of state. Censorship has no place here or anywhere else for that matter. While TT might not be the most suitable fora for political discussion, there's simply no need to supress it for fear of debate or arguement.

Yep. Yesterday in a radio interview I listened to a guy who had a computer store in a state that killed business taxes, so he upped his inventory levels. Interviewer asked if he had added employees (which generate payroll taxes, bring money into the economy, etc.). He said no, when he has more customers he adds employees, not when he has more money. Duh. Most of the "government people" I know, Fish and Wildlife, cops, teachers, city council, etc. are really good people who are in there to try and do their best to help their fellow citizens and their country.

Don't forget that for each and every Federal agency listed, there are also 50 redundent state agencies and thousands of local agencies!

Perhaps we need a new government agency to review and examine the other government agencies? :D
