We are talking about a pre-amp here, not needing a lot of current. That size transformer, capable of 5 A is overkill! A much smaller one would do the job. A 12VAC Wall wart would do. Not only that , but since the voltage needed by the pre-amp is 12 VAC, the supply will not need to be stepped down by a transformer and most likely will go directly into a full wave bridge rectifier. If that is the case, the voltage will be smoothed by capacitor(s) which will increase the supply voltage. Depending on what comes after as far as voltage regulation is concerned, it is very possible that a supply voltage of 12VDC will work. However it would require some knowledge and checking of the circuit.

You COULD use a 24v supply (plugged into the outlet) and use a 12v voltage regulator IC that can handle the power requirements of your preamp and bluetooth.

    Voltage conversion question

Ok, so I want to make a personal stereo. The amp requires 24v 6A supply. That's the easy part. I also want a bluetooth board that requires a 12v dc supply, and a preamp that requires a 12v ac supply. I can only have one plug going to a wall outlet. What do I do? Some kind of weird battery configuration? Thx.
