  • 1/4" MDF for crossover circuit board and binding posts?

Hi! I would like to use 1/4" mdf for building a plate to put the xover board and the binding posts and finish in gloss black.
The size will be 5"x7.5" and the cutout for the rear baffle 3.75" x 6".
Is it ok ? Isnt too thin the material?

It would work, but would be very weak and brittle and break easily. You are better off using a piece of plywood of that size. I personally don't like using MDF in sizes less than 0.5".

I always thought building a nice thick, well braced cabinet and then putting a thin panel over a significant hole was counterproductive. You can find binding posts long enough to go through 3/4" or even thicker material. That's my preferred method, unless I cheap out with a buyout item, or the little plastic 5 way post item I used on the Mariposas I just finished. As far as the crossover mount, any thin wood based material is fine with me.

1/4" for the crossover would be just fine. That's what I did on my Stentorians, but I drilled clear through to mount components with zip-ties and also ran the wiring underneath. You can see them HERE.

1/4" for binding posts would be a little thin, but it could be done. Spanning a 3.75" x 6" gap, 1/4" material might flex a little bit under high pressures. I think I'd go with 1/2" or 3/4" for binding posts.
