    Re: Big Radius 2-way

    Cool build

I've done a few kerf cut builds. Lots of dust and lots of work, but results can be pretty cool.

    Good luck

This is kind of a pre amble to a build I have planned for the summer.

        Re: Big Radius 2-way

A pair of PS180's lurk in my garage. I'd be interested in your opinion of them.

One design Q here, though - a large radius edge is often used to better manage diffraction issues - normally in the horizontal plane. Yet, this design will use the large radii for the top vertical edge only. Is this just a stylistic expression or is there some function behind the form, too?

        Thanks, looks interesting.

        Regards,

        Rob

Arlis , Ive yet to attempted a kerf build. How do you know where to where to start and stop the kerf slots , if I may ask? Going to follow this build !!

            Re: Big Radius 2-way

The baffle is so wide and with the tweeter offset, the tweeter diffraction is out of the passband.
Really I didn't know where to stop and start. As it turns out, I should have made a few more at the top, there is a bit of a flat spot. As it turns out, I should have stoped sooner at the bottom,m the kerfs are in the glue joint and I had to cut it with a circular saw.
I will do better in my summer build.

Very nice, Lowell. I wish kerfing did not generate so much dust. Nice results though.

I was mistaken. I have a 10" Ultimax. Chuck, do you think that will work well in 1.25?

They will be big. May end up in the dumpster like the last ones. I will bring them to DakotaDIY first though.

                        More progress today.
Marked and cut the sides. Glued them on with Gorilla glue, lots of it, especially in the kerf area. A few brads too.

                          Re: Big Radius 2-way

After shopping I went ahead and flush trimmed as well as applied a 5/8 round over. By the way, spend a few bucks more and get the triple wing. Like butter.

Then filled in a few gaps with PLPremium as well as the brad holes.

Will continue with Dry wall mud Saturday and some Duratex on sunday.

                            Very cool build.

Have you used drywall compound on speaker cabinets in the past? I used it once and was not happy with the result. It was very fragile and after painting, I bumped into a wall while carrying the cabinet through a doorway and got a big divot because the compound gave way under the paint. I have not used Duratex - maybe it will offer sufficient protection as an outer layer. Now I generally use Bondo when I need to fill, even tho it's more of a pain. Just wanted to mention that in case this was your first effort with the mud.

                            Looking forward to more pics

The mud works very well under Duratex.

Right on. One of these days I have to give duratex a shot.
