Re: Big Radius 2-way
Thanks.
Yeah, in a way. In retrospect, I wish I would have raised both drivers a couple of inches.

Nice piece of work!
Before finishing they reminded me of a street corner mail box.....maybe if you add a slotted port.....:o

Re: Big Radius 2-way
Thanks Matt.
Tom, I think I'll do better on the next one. I think I need to make molds kinda like you do with you curved sides. Side by side, there is a difference in the two.

Re: Big Radius 2-way
That looks fantastic.
I've done a few curved builds with kerf cuts and have had similar issues as you did. Nothing that caused a big problem though.
My father told me he had seen special kerf blades that taper to a very thin thickness near the tip of the blade. I think this reduces some of the 'faceting' or flat spot problems we often have with using this approach. I've never seen one, but he says he has.
1/8" of material is a lot to remove and have it bend uniform, but your project seems to have come out nearly perfect.

Yes, without a problem.

Re: Big Radius 2-way
Right on. One of these days I have to give duratex a shot.

Re: Big Radius 2-way
The mud works very well under Duratex.

Have you used drywall compound on speaker cabinets in the past? I used it once and was not happy with the result. It was very fragile and after painting, I bumped into a wall while carrying the cabinet through a doorway and got a big divot because the compound gave way under the paint. I have not used Duratex - maybe it will offer sufficient protection as an outer layer. Now I generally use Bondo when I need to fill, even tho it's more of a pain. Just wanted to mention that in case this was your first effort with the mud.
Looking forward to more pics

Re: Big Radius 2-way
After shopping I went ahead and flush trimmed as well as applied a 5/8 round over. By the way, spend a few bucks more and get the triple wing. Like butter.
Then filled in a few gaps with PLPremium as well as the brad holes.
Will continue with Dry wall mud Saturday and some Duratex on sunday.

Re: Big Radius 2-way
They will be big. May end up in the dumpster like the last ones. I will bring them to DakotaDIY first though.
