  • Any on wall speaker projects using exciters?

I've been following the "DIY Flat Panel Speaker Love" thread and it's got me interested in exciters. Has any one come up with a successful on wall design using these? I'd like to build a couple of panel speakers that I can hang on the wall over my computer desk and use along with the 2.1 amp and sub from a Logitech Z-2300 sub/sat system.

I'd be interested in this. Even if mounted out 3-6 inches.
If anyone has suggestions on parts, I would be willing to buy and test.

You could put these in a small frame and hang them on a wall:

Some people collect stamps, Imelda Marcos collected shoes. I collect speakers.:D

It's too bad you weren't 100% happy with the sound, they look awesome.

I watched a bunch of videos on exciters and DML speakers yesterday, that was one of the better DIY implementations I came across. As you said, something similar but suspended in a frame should work.

If I was going to start from scratch I'd probably follow most of the suggestions by rmeinke in post #94 of the other thread.

There are a couple additional challenges I can see when moving to an on or near wall design though. One is suspending the panel in a frame while still allowing it to vibrate freely, maybe rubber straps as suggested or some very compliant standoffs. You'd also have to put something within the frame to absorb the back wave rigid fiberglass perhaps, or I have some fiberglass duct liner that I'd probably try.
