  • Concerts you wished you'd gone to

I was listening to the live Pantera CD the other day, and listening (and laughing) at Phil Anselmo swearing and rambling on at the crowd, and realized that I wish I'd gotten to hear them. Unfortunately, that will never happen, due to the tragic death of Dimebag Darrel and the mere fact that they'd look silly still acting like hooligans in their late 40s.

So that got me wondering about other concerts I wished I had gone to. The two others that immediately come to mind are:

    1. Frank Zappa's band during the late 70s-early 80s. I love listening to the recordings from this era because the band is so freaking good, and so entertaining. "Does Humor Belong in Music" is by far my favorite concert video.

    2. Alice in Chains when they had Layne Staley. I have seen videos of them with the new guy, and he does a surprisingly good job. But man, then I watch a video from the early 90s with Layne singing, and it's amazing. The guy had such control of his voice, and such an eerie, confident stage presence. You just don't see stuff like this anymore.

Are there any concerts you regret that you couldn't go to?
Isn't it about time we started answering rhetorical questions?

Was supposed to see Rick Nelson, but he was killed in a plane crash a few months before the concert.

Got to many concerts in the '60 and '70, but could not make it to Woodstock (long story, had tickets).

I once heard that more people CLAIM to have been there then ACTUALLY attended.
Saw the Ad in the NY times the week prior to the festival, tried to convince my cousin we could get there.
          Didn't make it.

I missed Meshuggah with Tool, I think it was Ozzfest. Still might be able to catch Meshuggah, don't know about Tool.

Circle of Dust back in their hey-day. I got into them a year after they disbanded.

Argyle Park's one live show at Cornerstone in 95.

Dream Theater with Mike Portnoy. They had a tour and played Chi-town, and I missed it.

Lovewar's last concert with Reflescent Tide and Johnny Q. Public in 1997. I had to work. I should have called in- still kick myself for that one! RT was one of my faves back in college at that time, Lovewar was awesome and playing their best stuff- never produced on CD, and JQP was pretty cool.

Went to the Grande Ballroom in Detroit to see The Cream but they cancelled
What a letdown , the consolation act was Harumi .
Another one was The Doors who were scheduled to play at the University here but after the arrest of Morrison at the concert in Florida the concert was cancelled.
The consolation Act was The James Gang in a smaller room , They were excellent.

We didn't have tickets, went anyway. :applause:
I missed seeing Tower of Power on a double bill with the Brecker Brothers in '75 when one of their members was ill and the concert was cancelled.

Saw Zappa in that era, wasn't a fan, just went because of his reputation, WOW, didn't recognize a single song and it was outstanding, tightest band ever period! Missed Anderson Bruford Wakeman and Howe, had tickets, think they cancelled. Would have liked to have seen the Eagles but wouldn't pay their ticket price just on principal. (outrageous) Wish I had seen The Beatles (too young), Talking Heads later in their career, Pink Floyd with Roger Waters.

Had tickets to see Living Color, but we had a major ice storm that day, so I didn't make it.
Almost missed Metallica the following evening for the same reason, but a friend stopped by and picked me up, so I made it after all.

Wish I'd seen the Doobie Brothers.

Yes, Woodstock would have been the epitome! But alas, I was too young to go anywhere without parental guidance.

Really wish I could have gone to the original production of The Wall. LA was one of the four cities they presented it to, it never occurred to me that I was missing something historic....:(

Had a ticket to the Clapton, SRV, Buddy Guy, and Robert Cray show at Alpine Valley in 1990 (Yep, THAT show) but had to decide whether or not to give it up at the last minute because I was asked to go to an art gallery to (I'm not kidding)... listen to poetry.... by a very attractive woman. I was young and foolish, so: On the one hand, I missed a great and historic show and a last chance to see a living legend.... but the evening was not entirely without merit :D

i would have loved to see, Yes and The Who. But there are too many others Ive missed to mention but one that really bugged was a Mandy Patinkin concert that was cancelled due to lack of interest. This area sucks when it comes to acts like his.
