  • TC7FD04-04 2-way?

Has anyone used the Vifa TC7FD04-04 or a similar driver in a 2-way speaker? I dimly recall seeing a Vifa TC6 or TC7 driver winning the Super Budget competition somewhere or other, but I'll be darned if I can remember where.

I think Dan N used the TC6 as a tweeter in a 2 way TL a few years back at MWAF. Chuck isaeagale4031 also used the TC6 in a 2-way.

      I've used the TC7 as a tweeter. I'm a fan.

        Any details?

I'm building an iPod dock, and this looks like a legitimate 2-way with a cheap 8-12" woofer. ~87dB efficiency is not bad, especially if you cross it at 300hz...

I've used the TG9 as a mid-tweeter. Big fan of it as well. The high end rolls off as fast as you'd expect from a 3" driver, but I was using it to re-purpose some vintage speakers that had cone tweeters of about the same size, and it really kept the "vintage" sound to some extent, but a lot more hifi from an updated crossover design and much better driver than what was there previously.

The TC7 should be even better off-axis as it's even smaller at 2.5", and [email protected] is good enough to crossover to most woofers.

Looks for the black box competition stuff from InDIYana 2013. I believe a few designs did this type thing.

Just be careful with your power handling. Most of those small "full range" speakers can't handle a lot of power and thus can't handle a lot of SPL.

While I personally prefer a true tweeter, they can make a pretty good design if you account for these trade offs.

            The Aria's - RS150-4 (or RS150-8) + XT25SC90
            The Mariposa's - TEBM65C20F-8 + ND16FA

I crossed LR2 at 1khz. Look at my Vagrant projects.

Good memory John! I used the tc6 with the Dayton ds115. Dan used the tc7

The variant in question has zero low-frequency output, but it's actually ~90dB at 2.83v. That's legitimate tweeter territory, and according to the rule-of-fudge I've been told, crossing it at ~400hz will put more than 2/3 of the output below its' passband.

                    I used the TC7 with a Dayton DC160 there.
