Announcing the Parts Express Speaker Design Team call

First off, we would like to thank everyone who shares their projects and ideas with other members of this forum. It is a great thing to have a community of speaker builders and audio enthusiasts who are willing to help others, provide ideas and share advice. For that, we thank you. It is also because of this that we decided to create a dedicated Parts Express Speaker Design Team. This team will be comprised of 10 individuals who are excited about building speakers, love Parts Express and the products we carry, and want to share their ideas with others in a dedicated format, which means your projects will be featured in our flyers and project gallery. Members will receive a monthly stipend to spend on parts and will also receive additional credit for completed projects, etc.

Interesting concept. I applaud the effort. My skills aren't up to the task. But, I'm not sure if they were there is enough information there to get me to apply. I mean, is this a one project entry or is it ongoing affair? Monthly stipend sounds like employment looking for a certain numbers of hours per month? Are they expecting someone to churn out multiple speaker concepts a year? I also wonder if that stipend puts limitations on publishing designs elsewhere using non-PE drivers.

It will be interesting to see who the 10 people selected are.

I can help answer some of your questions and/or address your concerns:

The entry project is just for the application. We are requesting that team members provide 1 project per 90 days, and of course they are open to provide more should they choose to. (Everyone works at different paces) They will be awarded a store credit for each completed project in addition to an initial start-up stipend and a monthly stipend to purchase products for their projects. It's not a set specific number of hours and projects can be a variety of scales and/or sizes. Our goal is to be flexible with team members and supportive of speaker building in general.

In terms of publishing other designs, that is up to the individual designer, but obviously we would not want a conflict of interest with a direct competitor. It would not be good for either party, (the competitor nor Parts Express), but if a Team Member is doing a project for an editorial piece, they are not obligated to use PE if it's not tied to Parts Express.

We just ask if it's a Parts Express project, that no more than 25% be non-PE products. We realize we cannot always carry everything that someone might be wanting to use. Hope that helps!

This is just a suggestion, so take it with a grain of salt or run with it, your choice. Once you have your team of 10 picked out, you should have them do something similar to the Iron Driver Event once or twice a year. PE picks out one new product to work with and give them an overall budget with a few constraints and let them go at it. Should put out some amazing results. Perhaps you could offer an additional award for the winner. Good Luck putting the team together and looking forward to the new designs.

so will these designs made by the design team be available for purchase as a bundle package with some potential savings? =). Also, great idea to Kevin K's idea as well for an iron driver contest within the selected individuals.

I don't think a short term listening session is the suitable format for PE purpose. Blind listening is of course a big plus but I would recommend a more of long term listening sessions.
The other thing PE needs to do is to clean up and categorize Project Page. It's a mess. The projects range from well listened to designs by well know guys to "who knows what this thing really is". If I was a newcomer looking to build a project, I'd be lost in options and budgets.

Cool concept. One design every 90 days? That's asking a lot of someone IMO. I sure don't have the time for that kind of pace unless it involved an actual pay check (not pe bucks).
