Cheap steel laminate inductors?

I've come up with mods for the Dayton B652 and T652 speakers that I would like to offer DIY and/or as a finished product, but the cost of the high-valuewoofer inductors is a cost killer. I know a lot of inexpensive commercial speakers (like the Andrew Jones-designed Pioneer BS-22's) use high AWG (thin) steel laminates that perform satisfactorily. I've tried to find a source for them, but all that seems to be available are the Erse (Parts Express) and Madisound 15 - 18 AWG that are too big and expensive for this application. Does anyone happen to know how to get hold of smaller, cheaper, and thinner gauge steel laminates? Thanks, Dennis Murphy

They have been out of stock on all of their coils for several months. I wondered if they had gone out of business and actually just called them a few days ago to inquire.

They told me that they will be out for the foreseeable future until they have a supply arranged overseas.

Goldwood has a line of cheap cored inductors similar to what you'd find in a lot of entry level commercial gear:

Thanks for the reply. They're a little cheaper than air cores, but I can't find any dimensions. They may be too large, particularly for the B652. Bummer about Dynavox. That would have been perfect.

Have you used these Howard? Wonder if the DCR is accurate. It looks like 20AWG wires are used, so what about the power handling?

A friend sent me a link to orevox.com The page is identical to the Dynavox page, with identical products. I placed an order for 12 of the 2.0 mH ($1.10 each), and they let me check out and pay with no indication they were out of stock, and I got an e-mail receipt. We'll see if I actually get them.

Truly weird. It sure seems like an attempt to avoid bad press under the previous trade name or to work around some kind of narrowly worded law suit. But I googled them and didn't see any issues. I'll know better in about 5 days when the coils are supposed to be on my doorstep.

Did you try ERSE direct? If you need $40+ worth of stuff they may be worth a look.

MCM has some lower cost 22-24 ga inductors. Ferrite instead of steel laminate core if you can live with that.
