Anyone seen a pair like this? Found them in classifieds. Many possibilities but for what purpose? Donate them to a church? A cool speaker to accompany an electronic organ? With a waveguide and good midrange with high efficiency woofer some serious SPL could be generated. I'm talking myself out of it but this could be fun.

I see they're using the old EV vented midrange unit.

Gotta say that they do look imposing. Really though in modern speakers you could do a lot better in a lot smaller cab. The car audio guys are getting 160 db plus in half the size. Steve Meade has a POS Sentra build over 160db and its just the b pillar back to the seat frame. So my thoughts here would be someone wanted to experiment. Almost would seem like free air mounting to those drivers.

Also just noticed that that's not a port on the bottom. It's a missing driver... Very strange mid placement right above the floor. I like the builders freaky nature.

Haha, reminds me of some speakers I built back when I was a teen. EV SP12B's in the factory-recommended enclosures, which were vented and the size of a washing machine. Some serious SPL when driven by a 30 wpc Scott receiver I built from a kit. Fun times, I used to pay my friends $1 for the first play on their new albums, which I would record on a Sony reel to reel tape deck. Still have the AR turntable from back then, still works.

Throw a new baffle on it along with some worthwhile drivers and additional bracing, you could have a lot of fun here.

wow you've seen these on Craigslist too? That's really funny. You know you've had the urge to haul these bad boys home and make them sing by outfitting some new hardware...the seller probably "feels" they have some true vintage value. The reality is they should pay ME to come move them out of their garage...given the sheer effort from moving them..

"Throw" a new baffle...meaning literally cut it off or just try and work with what is there. A new baffle would likely mean a complete rebuild but at least I would have the tops, bottoms and sides. A high efficiency WMTMW with a big waveguide in the middle might really be cool. Nope, place a new baffle over the existing baffle. I did something similar earlier last year when I repurpoused a pair of 200 liter Tannoy cabinets.

Oh. Decent idea. Could be promising...

How much would you get for hauling those away?

Don't know but It's unlikely I will get paid anything. They want to sell them outright then have the buyer move them I'm assuming.

                          Re: Refrigerator sized project

back in high school I landed a church organ speaker box. It was made of nice wood and was the size of a really big dresser. It had 9x10 drivers and 2x12 woofers aiming up. they were super stiff paper cones with no xmax, accordian surrounds, maybe alinco magnets, and that old fabric covered wire. I used this for the speaker cab of my old guitar amp. It was stashed under my bed most of the time. I hauled that beast to any practice or show I had..........

This post makes me think of that speaker box. HUGE, TACKY, NOT PRACTICAL IN ANY WAY

The perfect thing for that 16 year old in us who only wants to make it go to "11"

hey Roman, they make your line array setup look small in comparison...but not by much :D

Just looking at parts values, those VMR mids are probably worth somewhere between $75-100 each. I imagine the woofers are similar, if they're all in good shape. Not sure about those tweeters but, there's probably $3-400 worth of stuff in those boxes. What is the seller asking for them?
