Re: SA70...where do I go from here.....

What about just adding the sealed amp chamber. It looks like the original designs 6" width would only need to increase to 9.75" to accommodate the amps depth. In doing this the original design (volume/port and sub fitment) would be unchanged.

Re: SA70...where do I go from here.....

Ok Robert, here is what I've worked out. I tried to stay as true to Mr. Carmody's original design as possible. The woofer stays in the same place, and the port is still 2.25" down from the top of the enclosure but had to be moved off center due to the amp. Paul's (bullittstang) revised dimensions worked out, just needed to move the amp from the end of the enclosure to the side.

There is certainly enough room to move the woofer to the end of the enclosure instead of the side, but the end of the port would then be pretty close to the back of the woofer's output, so I don't know how that would affect the performance of the sub. I have learned first hand that boundary re-enforcement can change the tuning. In other words, if you don't have DAT's to confirm the tuning, maybe not a good idea. Best of luck on the project Robert.

Woodsart -- Sorry if I caused you any grief/issues with my oversight of the port hitting the amp.

Kevin K -- thanks for re-running my figs., and finding a way to make it all work.

Edit --- Kevin, awesome job, that's one way to make sure everything fits and looks great too!

Thank you Sir. I know this is a highly regarded design of yours and just thought some other people might like a solution for it with this plate amp. I look forward to building one myself here in the very near future.

No problem Paul, the oversight wasn't obvious to me either until I had the enclosure drawn and started to load the components, and then there was that "Uh Oh" moment. Your volume calculations were spot on and it wasn't a difficult fix.

Well I haven't started cutting, so everyone is safe! :D'

                No problem at all, Paul.

                What a sketch, Kevin!....WOW!

                Thanks, guys, so much.

Glad we could help Robert. I forgot to mention when I posted the pics earlier that the port and amp could go on either end as long they stay together. In other words, it could be mirrored. This might help depending on how you would position it in the room. Let me know if you have any questions. Looking forward to the pics, have fun!

Thanks again Kevin. I like the way the pic looks and will probably go with that.

Great progress for only one weekend Robert. Are you planning on that awesome Faux finish you've done before?

Yes Kevin I was, however, my wife said she would like just black...so there you go. Since the Kairos are fauxed which includes waxing, they will stay that way and match the bass module when it is complete. That way they will stand out. As I said I already have the 2 Quarks with wood graining. They will be in the back of the room, less noticible.

Wonder if it would hurt to line the insides of the sub with that 1/16" self stick lining, since the ply I used had a few small voids...

                              Thanks, Robert

The sub won't mind that lining at all - but I'm not sure how it would help with voids.
BTW, your build will probably be the reference for any Voxels with the SA70. Rock on, Garth.
