Re: Has anyone heard how Jeff Bagby is doing?
I'm pretty sure he hasn't had the transplant yet, but he has been posting in several threads here almost every day and "sounds" like he's doing okay.

Re: Has anyone heard how Jeff Bagby is doing?
Here's an update from where the epic thread left off. Two weeks ago I learned that my kidneys were tanking and on Friday, 9/4/15 an emergency catheter was placed in my chest and neck, that ran down into my heart. I began dialysis that same day and am now on a M-W-F schedule at 4 hours a treatment. This has made me feel quite a bit better and this past weekend I walked 5 miles with my wife.
Today I had another appointment with the surgeon and this Thursday, 9/17/15, I will have a second surgery to install a peritoneal catheter. This one will probably hurt a bit more than the first one, and will take about two weeks to fully heal. While it is healing I will continue to receive my thrice-weekly hemodialysis. Once it heals I will take a one week (all day long for 5 days) training on administering peritoneal dialysis at home. When home PD begins, I will go back to work. I am currently off on sick leave.
By the time I have begun PD my brother will have completed his 8 weeks of smoking cessation and will be back in the transplant evaluation process. Hopefully, things will move along nicely and a transplant will happen in a few months. Otherwise I revert back to the transplant list and wait on a cadaver. I am hoping for something sooner than that.
This week I have been clearing away my stacks of drivers and cabinets from the room I do my speaker work in and this area will be replaced with home dialysis supplies. I have just complete the passive Kairos and Continuum three-ways and need to write them up soon. Once the PD begins I plan to do no speaker projects for the time being. I will probably continue to check in on the board though.
Thanks for checking on me. Also, thank you for all of the notes and prayers that have come my way from everyone. It is really appreciated.

Re: Has anyone heard how Jeff Bagby is doing?
I'm interested to hear about the home dialysis.
Until about four years ago, one of my clients (I do IT work) was a chain of dialysis centers (they were purchased by Davita, which does their own IT).
Right before the purchase, my contact at the centers was telling me things were going to be shifting to home dialysis.
I would think the ability to treat yourself at home would be a game changer. We all have downtime at home and the ability to combine our downtime with dialysis should make treatment much less of a PITA, I would think.
Edit to add: Sure glad you're doing well, prayers things continue in a positive direction.

Re: Has anyone heard how Jeff Bagby is doing?
Jeff,
My prayers go out for you brother. It is very hard going through these types of physical challenges so my heart goes out to you.
Please take good care of yourself and may the Lord God King of the Universe bless you with health and wellness in abundance!

Re: Has anyone heard how Jeff Bagby is doing?
Hi Jeff,
I hadn't seen these email or I would have responded sooner.
I understand what you are going through (to a point). I went through end-stage renal disease in 1998/9 and had my transplant in August 1999.
I was fortunate in multiple ways, in that I had the opposite of your current situation of needing dialysis. I had hyper-urination and while I wasn't scrubbing the blood well, I was excreting the fluids too well.
I was also fortunate that I have a close matching living-related donor (sister) as you are hoping for with your brother.
Please let me know if I can help you with anything and feel free to ask any questions you might have.
I wish you a uneventful journey through this process and a successful result at the other end.
Best regards, Andy Kriech.

Re: Has anyone heard how Jeff Bagby is doing?
I just got a ring of the doorbell and when I answered it there stood a guy with a big flower arrangement - Get well wishes from my friends at Parts Express.
To all at Parts Express - Thank you very much for the beautiful gift and for your thoughts and prayers. That was a wonderful gesture and very much appreciated. It's always great to have friends.
I leave in about twenty minutes for the hospital for my second surgery. I'll post again soon.
Jeff
