  • Look at these guys - Wheel-Fi

No descriptions or specs, but those are some crazy horn loaded what nots. I'm guessing those custom compression drivers are direct driven from the tube amp. These are likely more for looks than linearity.

I also think these are for rich guys who want to look steam punk. They should come with a monocle, pocket watch, and a brass tea cup.

That is pretty neat, thanks for sharing.

Sure would be neat to hear a system like that.

That is cool looking and nice craftsmanship. Wish there was a way to FF thru parts of the video though. Were those AE drivers I saw?

They design and manufacturer the drivers too.

Looks like an interesting place to visit. Given the resources they have though, I think they could produce a slightly more elegant look. I wonder what their design philosophy, for want of a better term, may be.

I look at their logo and can't help but think they should call the company 3-methyl,4-ethyl hexane.....

Some impressive craftsmanship! I wish we could have heard the end result though.

Hey woog, thanks for the link. The combination of the woodwork, the Tubely warm goodness inherent in Tubes, and those nutcases MAKE their own drivers!!! Horns at that. Think about it, all tube and all horn, with insane (in a good way) woodcraft, I'm certainly impressed. SPL must be off the chart. Looks like great audio fun to me. All the best, Mike

Great video, I'm pretty sure those were AE woofers, though. They make the field coil drivers. That was also a Fostex tweeter on the finished product.

I can see them winding a coil, maybe the tweeter? But those are AE woofers. Here's a pic from the video where they're testing them...

Ahhh. Wish they gave more details. I didn't see where those drivers end up but I did notice those. Thought it odd the center wasn't oscillating with the cone.

They were winding huge coils for a motor structure behind a horn. May have been the mids. The size of the coil makes me think it's high impedance for direct drive from the tubes without an output transformer.

Either way... thanks for sharing . I love off the beaten path things, couple that with some genuine craftsmanship and you have the keys to my heart :p, I'd actually love to hear these someday. Ironically, I was talking with Craig K the past couple days about how much I'd love to hear a AE driver too.

hahahaha- that would be a terrible driver- the coil you're mentioning would weigh 20+lbs :D . The coil was for a field coil motor- where instead of fixed magnets, a DC supply run through a coil provides the flux. With a low impedance supply, this can keep flux modulation suppressed (and allow you to fully control system Q)
