  • PE Product Wish List...

So now that Thanksgiving is over, though many are still eating turkey-based food products... my thoughts turn to a Christmas wish list, just like when I was a kid...

However, I'm not talking about existing PE products you'd like to buy...
...but rather which products does PE not yet carry that you wish they would?

    I'll start with:
    * Remote control motorized potentiometer with a real remote.
    * Thinner gasket material for mounting small speakers
    * Right-angle 3.5mm audio cords (to keep my laptop audio output wire from getting in the way of my mouse)
    * Slightly broader selection of knobs for all the cool amp boards they sell (1/4" shaft is what they're light on)
    * Possibly a set of dry-transfer, rub-on set of amplifier-style words/symbols that could be applied to a home-made amp? (maybe these could be done in white and black colors... Lots of symbols... power on logo, right and left icons, plus/minus signs, input 1, 2, 3, basically all the common copy found on amps & speakers, in various sizes)
    * Maybe even a few small-to-medium sized metal amp project cases of decent quality (though I'd prefer to build my own)

Not that you can't get most/all of this stuff from other sources, but I'd be nice to one-stop-shop at PE if possible...
Have you any suggested products to add?

    Tom,

I like your idea of a dry transfer kit. My home brew amps need a face lift.

I would also like to see a new and improved "XSim Pro" software package available with an expanded feature set that includes baffle board layout and "instant" polar response simulations as you tweak your crossover parts. PE could sell it as an optional low cost "plug-in" for the OmniMic system.

My what PE should carry list has some repeat items

Euro terminal blocks for 14 to 18 ga stranded wire. The 20A ones they have now are too big.
More knock down MDF cabinets. We need an 11 liter cabinet.
Vintage grill piping to match the grill cloth.
Size #4 black pan head screws.
      Plastic Inductor bobbins
      Speaker trim rings
Dayton brand of flared on one end adjustable ports
Dayton Audio logo items for sale, hat, shirts, etc.

      Pet peeves

Figure out a way to keep the woofer guide updated.
      Create a tweeter guide
Provide VAS in Liters for GRS and buyout drivers
      Provide GRS FR graphs

Some common router bits, drill bits maybe. Braided cotton cable sleeving. Real spade terminals. Outrigger spikes. Shredded denim.

I like the idea of Dayton branded stuff for purchase...it would save me from having to make my own.

I occasionally wear my MWAF shirts, but I try not to do so often... they are kind of special in my eyes.

...and these, in bulk, for crossover work.

make them as long as they need to be... just snip the raised hump portion to get what you need, small screw to hold them down. This would solve all my crossover building problems!

2 ohm stable plate amp that does 1000 watts for under $500.

That's easy - a good class D two-channel + subwoofer amp (50W+x2 + 100W+) with adjustable filter points for main and subwoofer channels.

The popularity of poly has always perplexed me. In low-cost drivers, a poly cone driver can be easier to work with than other cone materials because of the damped, single-peak breakup and the ease of designing a well-behaved cone, but in high-end drivers, it is less desirable because the stiffness of poly changes near the apex as the voice coil heats up; this is the natural behavior of most plastics when exposed to elevated temperatures. Normally, you do not want the mechanical properties of the cone material to change during use, particularly in a manner that is signal history dependent. For SEAS' Excel drivers, they abandoned their poly cone offerings when they developed the Nextel-painted paper cones.

I'd like to see these carried:

                          Mini DSP

Anarchy in 4 and 8 ohms

Tower flat packs, or fully finished

Any chance of picking up the SB Acoustics line?

Bring back the Eclipse 8" woofer in 4 and 8 ohms or something better.

                              Re: PE Product Wish List...

I mocked up a visual on what I envision for a crossover terminal strip from post #9...

It would be as long as would be needed to make it cheaply. Just snip off the connector tabs to make it as long as your project requires.

Terminal holes would be big enough to take a beefy 10-12 ga. inductor wire. Use the bottom two holes to solder components to, and have the top portion to attach a quick disconnect terminal on it if you want.

There are similar products I was able to find (that's how I got the pic to work this up from), but only one piece at a time... connectability is an asset for crossover work.

I can't see this not being a huge hit. Cheap, and very versatile.
