  • DATS on Win10?

I cannot get my DATS software to do, well, anything On Windows 10.

I only have 1.0.2, not 2.0.0, but does that mean I have to pay for the upgrade to V2, or can I make it work?

I ended up figuring it out, and got it working. Discovered my ND91s have an Fs a whole 20hz higher than advertised.

so . . . the box model shouldn't be tooo much different, esp. if Vas was a bit lower.

After reading that other thread, I've had good luck using these settings for Windows 10: "Recording" (input) level 20, Output level 100 - of course, do both calibrations after changing levels.

Same here. Recording level at 20, playback at 100. It has been flawless so far.

                    Re: DATS on Win10?

Pardon my French, but a lot of this tomfoolery could be avoided if the author simply updates DATS to ensure that certain checks are done BEFORE allowing the software to be used for measuring anything. For example, the status of the recording device (i.e. if its set to one channel or two channel) should be easy to determine programmatically (likely via a simple registry call), and if it's not set correctly, then the software should display a bit warning message to that effect. Concerning the recording level, the software should be updated to perform a preliminary levels test on startup by asking the for the leads to be connected together, then running a test and advising the tester accordingly about what needs to be done about the levels. And both of these checks should be done EVERY time the software is started.

DATS is a GREAT tool, but it looks like almost all the problems with it concern its initial configuration before measurement. This should be easy to address by updating the software as I suggested above.

                      Hello Dustin,

For WT3 or DATS running under Windows 10 you should leave the Windows mixer Record Level set to the default value of "54". For DATS V2 running under Windows 10 eave the Windows mixer Record Level set to the default value of "100".

The DATS app interrogates Windows at startup for attached audio devices in search of the correct hardware. It warns if the hardware is not found. When the hardware is found the app raises the playback level to maximum. I cannot control the record level or number of input channels from within the app so WT3 and DATS users still have to manually switch from 1 channel to 2 channels at the Windows Record mixer on all versions of Windows. If I can find a way to detect the Record Level or number of input channels I will either set them as required or warn the user that the settings require manual adjustment.

With DATS V2 this issue is resolved as the new DATS V2 hardware is recognized by Windows as a stereo line-level device and the default mixer settings require no changes.

                      Regards,

                        Ahhhh!

That must be why I see some guys' posts on here where they're setting "line-level" values, but my old DATS still comes up as a "mic" level?
