Connecting DCX2496 to PC?

I'm trying to use the behringer software to connect to my DCX2496. I've checked the setup to ensure that the RS232 option is selected. My computer is running Windows XP Pro. I've tried both com port 1 & 2 but it is not being detected. Any ideas/suggestions?

You might need to change the speed of the serial port. Right-click on My Computer and select Manage. In the windows that appears, go down to Device Manager and click it so it is highlighted. In the right pane click on the + sign next to Ports. Double click on the serial port you wish to change. On the Port Settings tab try something like 38400,8,none,1,Hardware and click OK. Try connecting again.

Tried this. Didn't seem to help. Any other ideas? I thought it would be easy to get this thing to work.... Maybe my serial cable is bad?

There are null modem serial cables. You should check the manual to see what it requires and make sure you have the apropriate cable.

I ran into the same problem on a Pentium 166mhz laptop. I was using it for a few weeks with my DCX2496 and it was ONLY used to run the DCX, nothing more. One day it just stopped working. I tried everything conceivable to fix it, using my 15+ yr of computer knowledge (I'm the man!), and nothing. I tried a different serial cable...nothing. Finally I got fed up and tried hooking it up to my AMD 2800+ and it instantly worked. I then tried it on my P3-500mhz computer, and bamo, instant. I have no idea why it won't work on my laptop any more. I have literally tried EVERYTHING =(

Silly question. Do you have the Port setting set to PC (RS232) on the DCX?

From looking at the Specs, it looks like the DCX can handle 115200 port speed so go ahead and set it up to that on the PC.

If you open Hyperterminal on that serial port and type in AT (ENTER) do you get an OK?

Not really sure how to use hyperterminal. It wants me to setup dialing properties. I've tried this on multiple computers and messed around with the serial port settings and used multiple serial cables. These were running Windows XP Pro and Server 2003. An older Pentium III 500, Dell P4 and an IBM Thinkpad 700MHz. Still NOTHING. I think I'll pick up a USB Serial cable and see if I have any luck with that.

Oh, I did verify that it was set to RS232 on the DCX2496 setup. Thanks for the ideas/suggestions.
