No, my understanding from Dave is they are not the Neo ones. The ceramic magnet ones are suppose to be better so it is even a better buy. Lefty I got you covered for two, Hip let me know by Noon Monday if the cermics are fine. I need to get the check to him. It is $13 a piece plus shipping. I will let you know what the shipping cost is.
Hip I will send you a personal message too.
Okay, the continueing saga of the XT25s or No Good Deed Goes Unpunished. Jeff found out the guy with the Ceramics wants more money than the guy with the Neos. We are now back to the Neos since Jeff knows the guy and has done business with him before. Jeff will let me know what the cost to ship is and we will split the cost with the shipping and $13 a piece for the tweets. I have Lefty with 2, I have Hipster with 2, I have me with 4 and Jeff with 4. I like doing the group buys but they do take a little work. When I have all the info I will send it to you. I will include the dialogue between Jeff and I so you know as much as me.
Ok, I had some confusion about these tweeters. I bought a pair of Vifa P17W drivers from a guy at the swap meet at diyaudio, He told me about the tweeters: Vifa XT25SC50-4 (the ones for 166 for 12). Later a guy posted a ad for the XT25TG30-4 for which he had a bunch to sell. I thought it was the same guy until I sent a return reply to him tonight via the PM function at diyaudio, rather than the other guys email. So, I want to clarify because I initially told Dave about the XT25 neo version (Vifa XT25SC50-4) then later "corrected" myself and told Dave it was the other one (XT25G30-4) which is not a neo and is a little more expensive. I am not sure which Dave told you about.....the ones for 166.00 for 6 pair is the neo (Vifa XT25SC50-4), which have very similar characteristics to the others, they are just in a smaller housing really. Please let me know that this tweeeter is the one you want (neo) b/c that is the one I am about to oder. I don't know what the other guy is selling the other type for but they are more expensive and there is no bulk discount or free shipping with those.
Hope that this didn't mess up your plans,
Jeff
Okay, I am sending jeff a check. Here is our communication. With shipping the price for a pair is $29.00 or $14.50 each. I guess guys we will need to get together and have a beer and pizza so you all get your tweets.
I will get the check in the mail today. Chili Chang, is that really the name???
I am going to use my four for a combo with Tang Band 5.25". Two of the others go to 2Leftthumbs and two go to Hipcheck. They were both at the Hot Springs DIY. Hopefully next year you can make it. Nice group of people and we ate and drank well.
I hope we can keep these group buys alive. So far we have purchased the North Creek tweets before they went out of stock and availabilty for $13.75 (including shipping), the JM Lab/Focals 6.5" for $15 a piece plus shipping and now these.
You have to try and get out the Hot Springs next year. Love to have you here.
I just looked up the flat rate postage rates. The largest box should easily carry all 8 tweeters and it is 14.50, the price of the tweeters with the discount is 110.67. I figure about $117 should be just about right (that is me picking up 1/2 of the postage), rounded to the nearest dollar. If I can fit the tweeters in the smaller box I will send the difference in postage in cash with the tweeters ($2-$3).
I just sent the funds to Ed today so he will ship them tomorrow. I should get them by Friday or Monday and will ship them the day following their arrival here. At this price they are almost exactly 1/2 price. The specs on these tweeters look really good too. I am going to use a pair crossed around 10K with my Chili Chang Fostex 167E speakers, they should be able to be mounted very close to the Fostex, hell I could even mount them on an extension off the center pole where my Planet 10 nose cone is. I might try it who knows. The other pair are going in the dash of a 57 Chevy 2D HT Bel-air we are restoring. I am curious where you are going to use all 8 of yours.
Funny how this all came about. Ed from diyaudio is who I was going to buy from. Well the group buy helped some on the price. Maybe we can meet in LR soon and hand out the tweets. I plan on getting a new plate machined that will mount the XT25 right up against a RS52 for my car install. XT25, RS52, Dayton RS225, all active. - I will soon get 2 AE-IB15 if anybody wanted to go in on 4 for the price break.....?
Well that would save Dave since I will ask him for a crossover when he has an opportunity and I start building the cabinets. I am going to do a double bass reflex cabinet. That little woofer goes low and I think the cabinet will help the woofer reach its potential while protecting it. I am more than willing to share plans and you are always welcome to come down to H.S. and we will build them together. Plus when that woofer will be $18.50 is probably never.
Hip, you will not have to put gas in that car to make it move. I am more than willing to head up to L.R. when you guys want to get together. Flying Saucer has good food and plenty of selection for drink. Plus there isn't a bad looking waitress at that place.
The 6.5" needs a big box, over 1 cu ft. I have a pair and I am going to put them in towers. While the 5.25" isn't a small cabinet it s around .5 cu ft so that makes it more convenient.
We have all the kids moving in for school so nothing has been done in the woodshop for over a week. Maybe tomorrow could glue up a few things. One of the science teachers got my Vifa PL18 and Seas D27TDFC 2-way. He caught the bug and now wants to make a new center channel since his old one doesn't match up with his new fronts. He is actually willing to spend a little money so he bought two of the Peerless 5.25" HDS drivers on sale at PE and we are going to get a Seas 27YDFC for the tweet. Think it will sound very nice.
And my quest for the Impossible Dream seems to have found a happy ending, I got two "new" Seas CA17RCYs. I say "new" because they have never been used but must be at least 12 years old.
I tell you Tom (a.k.a. Lefty) you should come down for a day of work in the shop and we will both get more work then if we were working by ourselves. It has A/C and the equipment is pretty good. Just to have a second hand for glueing up would be helpful.
Persons who were at the 2010 Hot Springs DIY event. I would like to start a group, and maybe as the year goes on more people from the area can join (hope to have a larger mailing list for any future events)
