Martyh- LOL on that comment and a definite ditto with Soupy on board. No apologies; I was invited and here now. What shall we do now? We need more members...safety in numbers. We need a Leader. I hope no real skills are involved here.
I'd be willing to travel and listen to builds of anyone who would extend an invitation as well given I can make it there and back in the same day. I haven't had a chance to hear any designs besides my friends open baffle and I'm eager to hear some of the ones I've seen on here.
So, if anyone wants to get together, show off their projects and talk shop, let me know! I'll bring the beer.
I like the idea of central WI location but I would probably be willing to drive as well, depending on the time frame I would probably have one or two builds to bring along.
pypes: have you heard anything back on auditorium use from your school? Just curious before I sign anything to use the recital hall at mine.
Failure is not an option. It comes bundled with Windows.
We are passionate about great sound at whatever level we can afford, so don't let the audio atheists reduce the experience to a set of numbers and squiggly lines. - jbruner
S7910 - It's spring break at the moment. I'll be talking to Jim about it next week though I expect to be able to have access no matter what - the only question is whether it would be free or not. Also.. dependent on weekend available obviously. Not sure we were okay with such a northern location overall, though.
pypes - why not put it to a vote between La Crosse and Rhinelander if no one from central WI steps forward to host? Heck, if the interest is there we could probably do both. I was thinking of booking the Recital Hall in late summer (August-ish) for a pre-Iowa test run/get together/show and tell.

I could likely sneak away for a day in August. Being so local, it won't require the logistical planning that Iowa & InDIYana do.
Hrm. I wonder if we could call Madisound and see if they have any ideas as to locations. Not looking for sponsorship or anything, but something tells me they'd be "well connected".
Leon, much interest in your Parabolae. What are you fitting them with?
Also, I'd like to make a blanket offer to measure anyone's projects, either BEFORE XO design or after for verification (as long as you're not seriously time-constrained). I'm still learning how to get the most out of SoundEasy, but I can now splice nearfield & farfield to get down into the ~150hz region and I've put it to good use with real world builds on more than one occasion.
I'm in. I am pretty much a stick in the mud, but I would like to hear some other people's projects. I was seriously considering attending Iowa DIY, but having to work Saturday mornings conflicted with driving to Iowa. I live in Hudson, near St. Paul, MN. I work in St. Paul.
Dirk, they're going to start life as a pair of RS180 / RS28 MTMs. I'm not sure if I'll use the A or F yet, I have the A but might get the Fs. I'm also considering changing them to a TM down the road with the Airborne driver if I get the money for a pair of them. The cabinets are just under 2ft^3 and will be turned to around 41hz if I remember correctly (don't have my design papers in front of me). They will be active with a dcx2496 and some carver tcm15cbs. I may take you up down the road on your measurement offer though if I decide to make them passive!
Pypes, I am interested to hear about progress on your active design as it happens. Sounds cool.
I am doing full active TM bookshelves with Center shortly with the DC28FS and RS180. Also using the DCX. I have everything, just looking for the time...
